Audio Illusions And Other Curiosities

A fun and fascinating lecture presented in collaboration with the University of Salford and Manchester Science Festival. Take a journey with our experts as they investigate fascinating audio illusions and phenomena, explaining both how these peculiarities are achieved technically and how they can be implemented for creative purposes.

Auditory illusions include spiralling notes – like Escher’s staircases – that seem to go up and up forever, phantom melodies that magically appear from rapidly repeating patterns of tones and rhythms that impossibly seem to be forever getting faster.
